- Vintage Avon Bicentennial Eagle Glass Dish, Vintage Collectible, Patriotic, 4th of July Decor, American Eagle, 1776-1976, Oval Scalloped Border, US History, (Discontinued)
- Made in: USA
- Vintage: 1976
- Details: This is a very nice collectible from Avon. It is a pressed glass, released in 1976 to commemorate our bicentennial celebration. This piece has a lot of detail starting with the Great Seal of the United States in the center, showing the beautiful American eagle, the olive branch and arrows, (which symbolizes the power of peace and war), and the 13 stars symbolizing the original 13 colonies. In script lettering it reads: "United States of America" on the top border and "1776 Bicentennial 1976" on the bottom border. This is an oval dish with two small embossed wooden sticks as "handles" and a scalloped rim. Certainly a collector's piece, not only for Avon collector's but American history collectors as well. Excellent decor for the 4th of July, or in a study or library. If you are an Avon collector, this will make a wonderful addition to your collection.

For more than 80 years, Avon has been selling health and beauty products, personal care, jewelry, perfumes, clothing, and many other items. Sometimes they package their products in beautiful decanters and other glassware that have become a favorite of collectors. In the mid 1960s, Avon began producing novelty containers for perfumes. Collectors loved the new products, and Avon began creating more collectibles to draw in their customers. Although most of the collectibles have lost value today, there are still many collectors and many others who value the nostalgia these pieces have and the beauty they bring to their homes. We read recently that Avon will be doing away with their collectibles, or at the very least reducing the number of collectibles that will be entering the market. I can only guess, that for Avon, this is a strategy to increase demand in the future for a more limited supply of collectibles.
