• Details:  What an absolutely beautiful porcelain vanity set!!   It includes a gorgeous powder shaker, a pretty shaped soap dish and a versatile, footed candle holder, that can also be used to hold makeup brushes or lipsticks.  This set would be perfect either on a makeup table or bathroom vanity.  These items were sold with Estee Lauder's Youth Dew fragrance which was launched in 1953 including talcum powder, bath soap and candle (1966).  Although the fragrance is now gone, we can still enjoy the beautiful porcelain containers in new ways.  These items are 45 years old but they are in absolutely wonderful condition, perfect for gift giving.  They are all marked on the bottom: "Estee Lauder 1979 Porcelain".  Both the powder shaker and the candle holder retain their "Made in Japan" stickers.  This is a beautiful part of the cosmetic industry history, great for a collector.  Would make a beautiful Mother's Day gift, or for your favorite hostess or blue and white lover!

Estee Lauder was born Josephine Esther Mentzer in Queens, New York and was of Hungarian and Czech descent.  She learned to create skin creams from her uncle while she was still in high school.  She met, and eventually married, Joseph Lauter, in 1930.  His name had been misspelled when his father emigrated to the US and they corrected it to Lauder. Using Estée (her nickname as a girl), and Lauder, she launched her company in 1946 selling her own skin care line which consisted of 4 products at the time.  One of her earliest clients was non other than Saks Fifth Avenue.  Estee had a knack for knowing what women wanted, she elevated the Gift with Purchase idea and it eventually became an industry standard.  She believed that every woman could be beautiful, she had perseverance, creativity and passion, and changed the face of the cosmetics industry.  Estée Lauder retired in 1995 and passed away in 2004.
