  • Pattern:  Two Tier Tray, Golden Wheat (Rhythm Shape) by Homer Laughlin. (Discontinued)
  • Made in East Liverpool, OH, USA
  • Vintage: 1949 - 1966
  • Details:  We absolutely adore Homer Laughlin pottery and this two tier serving dish is one of our favorites. Known as a tidbit tray, sandwich tray and dessert tray, this one has two tiers, and a brass-tone handle.  This is the Golden Wheat pattern from Homer Laughlin on their Rhythm shaped dinnerware.  The design shows several wheat stalks with smaller brown dried flowers blowing in the wind, (similar to Autumn Wheat, see below), and a real gold rim.  Some experts show the Rhythm dinnerware shape was  discontinued in 1959, others say 1966, either way, still vintage and still beautiful. This is a wonderful serving dish, very practical, beautiful and a perfect gift for the Homer Laughlin collector!
  • Material:  Ceramic
  • Dimensions:  Approx:  10.0 inches in Diameter (bottom plate), 7.75 inches in Diameter (top plate).  Assembled is 9.5 inches Tall

Homer Laughlin China Company was started by brothers. Homer and Shakespeare Laughlin in 1871 as Laughlin Pottery in East Liverpool, Ohio. Due to rapid growth, in 1903 they opened a second location in Newell, West Virginia, by 1920 all production had been moved to Newell and the Ohio plant was abandoned. Homer Laughlin is best known for producing the very popular "Fiesta" line of dinnerware. The company is still in production and still manufactures all its wears in the USA, actually, in that very same Newell, WV location, it's the home of the "HCL Inc." family of companies that includes Hall China. (The Hall China Company merged with Homer Laughlin China Company in 2010).

Century Service based in  Alliance, Ohio.  They were a decorating and marketing company.  They purchased "blanks", dishes from many of the larger potteries operating in the area, including Homer Laughlin, and hand applied various decorations like this Golden Wheat decal, they added a thick yellow border to the pieces and called it Autumn Gold.
