- Details: Fans have been around since Roman times but these hand held - folding fans were introduced in the West during the 17th Century, and quickly became popular. This is a wood fan, it is hand painted with gorgeous pink roses and blue Forget-Me-Nots plus lots of swirls and gold painted accents . It has an "open-work" cut out design across the leaf border with a black ribbon running through it and more cut-out work on the sides.
