Charlotte Becker, (1907-1984), was a German born artist, illustrator, and author of children's books. She came to the USA at age 5. She studied art at the Cooper Union School in NY, a private, all-honors college founded in 1859. She went on to paint thousands of magazine covers, art calendars, art prints, and advertisements, all having to do with babies and children. Today her original works sell for thousands of dollars.
Louis F. Dow Company was a printing and advertising company, founded in the 1890's in St Paul, MN. They eventually grew to be one of the two largest calendar companies in the US (the other was Brown & Bigelow), expanding to several offices across the country. They offered promotional items like: calendars, holiday cards, pencils, and other novelties. They are best remembered for their "Military Pin Up Kits" (artwork by Gil Elvgren,1914-1980), that were sent to soldiers during WWII.
