• Vintage: 1960's
• Details: Wonderful oil Paint by Number completed painting!  It was sold in the 1960's by Craft Master titled: Swan Lagoon.  It features a family of swans with the baby swans (cygnets), among the lagoon grasses. Colors are still in great condition, and whoever painted this one, did a great job.  It is painted on board (some kits were on heavy paper), unframed.  Just add your desired frame and hang it.  Great piece of Mid Century art memorabilia.

Vintage Paint by Number works are highly collectible!  It's hard to believe it took them years, and practically giving away kits, in order for this hobby to really take off.  The paint by number kits we know today go back to 1949, when Dan Robbins was working as a package designer for Max Klein at Palmer Paint Company in Detroit, Michigan, remembering how much fun he had as a child painting and coloring, he proposed this idea to Mr. Klein.  It's worthy to note that a company called Picture Craft Company in Decatur, Illinois, had already started selling similar sets, but you had to paint the canvas to find out what the picture was.  Back to Mr. Klein & Robbins, it took them took almost two years to get their paint-by-number business going, but eventually it took off and made them millions!  By 1953 Picture Craft canvas kits were out of business and Klein's brand, Craft Master, painted on boards (vs canvas), was selling through stores like Macy's and by 1954, Palmer had sold some twelve million kits.  In 1969, General Mills bought the Craft Master brand, eventually being re-named Craft House.  In 2006, Chartpak purchased the Craft House brand.  Today Chartpak is still selling Paint By Number kits under the “legacy brand” of Craft House.
