Not much was found on American poet, Mary Stanley's birth and early life. We know that in 1907 she was living in Adams County, Washington with her journalist husband WF Stanley. By 1912 they had divorced and Mary moved to Minnesota. There she worked at the Grand Rapids Herold Review and the Duluth News Tribune. A year later she re-married, this time to Guy Finch, a co-worker who unfortunately died of TB in 1914. That same year Mary published her first collection of poems, titled: "Minnesota Christmas and other Verses". Eventually she moved to New York and wrote songs for "Musical America". In 1916 she re-marries again, this time to Merle Crowell, a publisher, but he joins the Navy and eventually they divorce. In 1920, she re-marries, this time Elmer Brown Mason is the lucky fellow, a writer and war veteran. Mary publishes "Fair Weather Cometh" in 1923; "Blue Meadows" in 1933, she moves to California and continues writing. Mary Stanley passed away on June 6, 1938 of Graves Disease. In 1946, three of her poems won the Jessie Mackay Memorial Poetry Award. Her work has been described as a "retrospective reading".
