Thomas was founded in Marktredwitz, Germany in 1904 by Fritz Thomas, originally named "Porzellanfabrik Thomas & Ens".   Ens was primarily an investor, did not get involved in the day-to-day running of the business.  In 1908 Ens left the company which enabled Rosenthal to become the major shareholder.  'Porzellanfabrik Thomas' operated as an independent subsidiary of Rosenthal.  In 1959-1960 porcelain production was transferred to a new site in Speichersdorf (Upper Franconia).  Rosenthal is a very famous porcelain manufacturer, (read about Rosenthal in some of our other listings), they are still in business and still sell Thomas Porcelain.
