- Pattern: Antique Cigar Box Label, Blue Ribbon, Original Lithograph, Collectible Labels, Discontinued
- Made in: Springvale, PA
- Antique: 1920's
- Details: This is a very old cigar box label from M.H. Sevis & Son, in Springvale, PA. It is a lithograph and a great example of the high quality embossing and gilding, and the beautiful colors that were achieved with a lithograph. It features a gorgeous blue ribbon, so detailed you can actually know it's a velvet ribbon as you can see the "velvet" markings. It has lots of scrolls and medallions/coins, even a crown on top with two lions. It reads: "Blue Ribbon, For Men Who Know, Design Registered M. H. Sevis & Son, Springvale, PA". The actual Blue Ribbon cigar was introduced by the E.L. Golden cigar company in 1909, also in Pennsylvania. The original label from 1909 didn't look this nice, it was 10+ years after the introduction that this gorgeous label was designed. This is great as a collector's item, framed and hung in a study, library or even man-cave or bar. It is a rare find in this condition, original, suitable for framing, and recommended to maintain this condition.
- Material: Paper
- Dimensions: 10.0 inches Long and 6.25 inches Tall
- Condition: Vintage - Guaranteed Original. This is an original, new old stock item, never been used, mint condition. There is very slight yellowing of the paper, more noticeable on the back side, but this is consistent with age. Also, there's a tiny speck of gilding that was splashed on the white bottom margin. Looks to be original from printing but could be covered using a mat if framing. Please review all pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns. Please remember these are VINTAGE and ANTIQUE items, every effort has been made to show any scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.
In 1909 the E.L. Golden cigar company introduced BLUE RIBBON as a brand of cigars. The Golden's Cigar manufacturing company was the most successful business to ever operate in Bonneauville, PA. The company started in 1895 and produced many other cigar brands including: Bokay-Grande, Bunney Boys, Penn Rose, Two Homes, Grande, Newcomers and others. They produced their last cigar in March of 1943, however, based on research, we believe the brand name is still owned by the Golden family. This label's design is registered to M.H. Sevis & Son, Springvale, PA. We were unable to find any history on this designer / lithographer, although they are listed with several cigar advertisements of the time.
