- Details: This is an adorable beer stein and a very RARE find! Made by Gerold Porzellan in West Germany, (model #5810), it features a little girl wearing a big hat, holding a rake and looking at a grasshopper. The other side shows the girl holding an umbrella and large basket of carrots, definitely a perfect mug for Fall Harvest decor! It is stamped on the bottom with the Gerold Porzellan mark used in the 1940's. Since the mark states "West Germany" and we know that Tettau Bavaria became part of W. Gerold Porzellan started as "Neue Porzellanfabrik Tettau e.G.m.b.H." in 1904. The three founders were: Bernhard Gerold, Nicol Krauss, and August Gerold. In 1923 it became "Neue Porzellanfabrik Tettau A.G", a stock company, with Karl Preissler and Fritz Gerold (Bernhard Gerold's son) at the helm. In 1937 when Fritz Gerold took control of the company he renamed it, "Neue Porzellanfabrik Tettau, Gerold & Co". After WWII the name was shortened to "Porzellanfabrik Gerold & Company". Fritz Gerold died in 1968. In 1993 the company filed for bankruptcy. In 1997 they were forced to sell the company to Lindner Porzellan, which changed the name to "Porzellanfabrik Gerold Kueps". In early 2000, the company became part of the Seltmann Weiden Group, however, they no longer used the Gerold name. Under the Gerold name, over 12,000 items were produced, some made by the same masters that worked for Meissen, and they remain high quality collectibles today.
