Details: A very traditional, colorful and gilded Balinese mask. Made of wood and hand painted with vibrant colors: black, rust and green plus lots of gilding on the wings and face. Balinese masks are sacred items and are often used in rituals and ceremonies. We believe this is "Barong" from Balinese mythology, he is a panther-like character who is the king of spirits and leader of the hosts of good. He is often depicted as a lion, cow, or dragon, and although it looks terrifying, he represents virtue, health, good fortune, and justice. This one is ready to hang, it has a nail in back, (a bit rusted), the "hanging loop" looks like its been replaced, not very attractive, you may want to replace both, or at least the hanger if you're gifting this piece. This mask embodies the spiritual and cultural richness of Bali, it is in great vintage condition, perfect as wall art / wall decor.
