  • Pattern:  Vintage Figurine, Boy and Girl on Sled, Winter Decor, Vintage Collectibles, Porcelain Figurine, Winter Sports, Children Sledding, Paul Sebastian, Kids Decor, Home Decor, (Discontinued)
  • Made in Mexico by Porcelana de Cuernavaca
  • Vintage: 1980's
  • Details:  This is a darling figurine from Porcelana de Cuernavaca and imported by PS-Paul Sebastian Inc, (more history on these below).  The colors on this figurine are soft pastel blues and beige, which makes for a very pleasing figurine. It is stamped on the bottom with the PS logo for Paul Sebastian, plus the Porcelana de Cuernavaca, Mexico logo and retains the original Made in Mexico paper label.  Neither of these entities are in business today, actually there's some confusion with the number 1992 on the bottom of this piece, we could not confirm if it's the year made, or style number of the piece.  Either way, it would make a wonderful addition to a bookshelf, or as part of a Christmas or Winter vignette or decor in a child's room.  A great present for a figurine collector!

The Paul Sebastian name seems to imply one person, one artist, however, the design house was founded by Leonard Paul Cuozzo and Alan Sebastian Greco, both from New Jersey.  They originally started creating colognes with their namesake being their first release, "Paul Sebastian Fine Cologne", in 1979.  As the business expanded they started offering "gift with purchase" items in 1983.  They eventually moved on to gifts of fine porcelain pieces to match their fragrances that soon became their company trademark. The company went international in 1989.   The company was sold to FFI Fragrances in 1999 and later was acquired by Elizabeth Arden, which as of 2014, continued to sell Paul Sebastian Fragrances.

Porcelana de Cuernavaca was started by Jorge Alberto Borbolla Villamil, a chemist who in 1948 moved to Cuernavaca, Mexico to work for Coca Cola.  In 1950, along with his wife and his brother, he acquired a ceramic workshop and while still working for Coca Cola, they all learned and grew their ceramic business so much so that in 1967 he was able to stop working for Coca Cola and concentrate solely on his own business.  In 1970 he built a new workshop Porcelana de Cuernavaca S.A. de C.V, using new, state of the art, German equipment.  Unfortunately by the 1980's, due to labor conflicts and extraordinary circumstances, the company closed.  Jorge Alberto Borbolla Villamil passed away in 2016.
