NuGrape brand was invented in 1906, first bottled in 1921.  In 1922, licensing rights were sold to the Olla Bottling Works in Olla, Louisiana where it was made and distributed for many years.  NuGrape was acquired in 1968 by The Moxie Company (renamed Moxie-Monarch-NuGrape Company and later Monarch Beverage Company). NuGrape soda was mostly sold in the Southeastern U.S.  Recently Cracker Barrel restaurants and World Market Stores started selling NuGrape.  National NuGrape Company had its national headquarters built in 1937 in Atlanta, Georgia, they created the NuGrape, Sun Crest, and Kickapoo Joy Juice brands. That building was occupied by NuGrape until 1971, when it was sold to a printing company.

Since about the 1930's glass bottles have used pyroglaze or ACL (Applied Color Label) to identify the bottles. Before the 1930's, names were embossed on bottles using a slug plate. The name was impressed on the slug plate, then the plate was inserted into the mold used to make the bottle – the result was the embossed name on the bottle.
