• This is a most exciting find!  Beautiful and rare, this piece is from Rosenthal Studio Linie (Line), numbered 3081/30. The designer of this vase is not known, but we suspect it is from one of the many, very famous, designers who contributed to Rosenthal during the 1960's - 1980's.  This vase is a cylinder shape, made of white bisque porcelain, very translucent.  It has a matte finish on the outside and a glazed finish inside.  The pattern features large blades of grass, against a tree- trunk textured background.   Perfectly mid-century modern in style, totally at home with today's minimalist, modern and retro decor styles.  This item qualifies for Free Shipping.

Rosenthal was founded as a family business by Philipp Rosenthal in 1897 under the name, Bauer, Rosenthal & Co.  The company has a long history and went thru several changes and acquisitions, they also had numerous political issues during WWII (Rosenthal being Jewish). Philipp Rosenthal died in 1937, during the war Rosenthal porcelain was distributed in the USA by Rosenthal-Block China Corporation, a company founded by Joseph Block.  In the late 1940’s Rosenthal hired Raymond Loewy who introduced 'Classic Modern White', whose stylish modern designs were so ahead of its time that many remain in production today. Philip Rosenthal, (Philipp's son), came into the business in 1950 and grew it to be the market leader for high-quality porcelain and glassware in Germany.   In 1969 the name Rosenthal Glas Porzellan was shortened to Rosenthal AG.  Today, Rosenthal GmbH is an independent company of the Sambonet-Paderno Group. There is now a "Rosenthal Archive", a collection of around 15,000 exhibits from 130 years of company history, in the Porzellanikon State Museum of Porcelain in Hohenberg, Germany . These include nearly all product designs, from the company's foundation to today, as well as originals designed by the artists who have contributed to Rosenthal's great success.

Studio Line, (Studio Linie) is a brand of Rosenthal introduced in 1961 to produce a more modern design aesthetic for Rosenthal.  They worked with some of the most famous designers of the time, names like:  Raymond Loewy, Cuno Fischer, Salvador Dali, Walter Gropius, Victor Vasarely, Andy Warhol, and Paul Wunderlich.  The brand is still sold today and just as modern and cutting edge as it was back in the 1960's.
