- Pattern: Vintage Vase, Otagiri Vase, Oriental Satsuma Style, Pheasant Birds, Florals, Large Vase, Vintage Decor, Asian Decor, Decorative Vase, (Discontinued)
- Made in: Japan
- Vintage: 1970's - 1980's
- Details: This is a wonderful Oriental vase from Otagiri Mercantile Company (OMC). It is tall and has gorgeous oriental style pheasants in a lush garden with a large Japanese maple tree, lots of mums and other flowers, greens and gilding. The red and gold bands on top and bottom, have tiny black moriage stippling. There is intentional, classic Satsuma, crazing all over the piece. It has an Oriental square stamp in red, on the bottom, and retains the Made in Japan gold and yellow sticker of OMC. Of course it's not legitimate Satsuma (original Satsuma pottery was made by Korean prisoners captured by Japan rulers in the late 1500's, this piece is not even late period Japanese Satsuma from the late 1800's), this is simply an export piece made in Japan for mass consumption, but it is absolutely beautiful and highly collectible Satsuma style. Perfect for an Oriental decor lover!

Otagiri Mercantile Company (OMC) was an importer and distributor based in San Francisco, CA from 1954-1994, they also had a location in New York. Otagiri imported ceramics, porcelain, stoneware, and giftware from many Japanese companies. The products were made in Japan and imported for distribution and sale to high end department stores and gift shops. However, from the mid 1970's to the mid 1980's Otagiri had some items specially produced just for them and those items have the name "Otagiri" brand mark. Not all OMC wares are marked, some have the gold OMC label or Otagiri written in gold, others had a yellow or gold sticker, like this one. The company was bought by Enesco in 1994.
