  • Details:  This is a really pretty soap dish and/or trinket dish.  It was made by Takahashi of San Francisco.  It's part of their "Geranium" giftware series which included vases, photo frames, trinket dishes and more.  We also found a coffee cup, so there may have been dinnerware made in this pattern.   This dish features a basket full of pink geraniums and three little Japanese dolls on the side.  The border has a checkered pattern with little pink dots and outlined with pink and blue stripes.  It is stamped on the back: " Geranium, San Francisco" and their logo.  This piece also retains its original foil label. that reads: Takahashi, San Francisco, 94103, Made in Japan". Very pretty dish, perfect for a powder room, kitchen sink or as a catch-all by the front door or nightstand.

The Takahashi Trading Corporation was founded in San Francisco, CA by Henri Hiroyuki Takahashi after WWII.  Henri's son, Norman (Norman Tomoyuki Takahashi) studied computers in college and that knowledge of computerization helped make Takahashi's a national wholesale and retail company dealing in imported Japanese made designer home goods, with seven retail stores, in the San Francisco Bay Area and NYC.  Norm would travel to Japan with his parents and upon his father's death, took over the company.  Sadly, Norm just passed away in October of 2018.  No word yet on who will be running the company but no doubt it will continue to be family owned.  Update - On March 24, 2019 there was a warehouse sale liquidating much of the Takahashi inventory in San Francisco.  This is the end of an era of a much loved family business, Takahashi will be changing ownership.
