• Details:  This is a limited edition lithograph, numbered and signed by the artist, Urbain Huchet.  After some research, we believe this is one of several Pantheon watercolors by Huchet.  We are not experts, so please make your own determination.   It is a wonderful piece of art depicting a 19th century street view of crowds dressed in their best.  You see both women and men wearing hats, horse carriages all along the street in front of the Pantheon in Paris, France.  It is hand signed in pencil on the bottom right; edition number penciled bottom left: 145/350.  It is unframed, should be framed to protect it and maintain condition.

Urbain Huchet was born in Rennes, France in 1930.   Originally intending to become a lawyer he studied law and later owned a textile factory.  In 1960 he decided to devote himself entirely to painting. He spent the first three years as an artist in Pont-Aven, following in the footsteps of the Post Impressionist, Gauguin, and Emile Bernard, both of whom influenced him a great deal. In 1963 he moved to Paris and started traveling abroad. His travels took him throughout Europe, the Middle East, Peru, Mexico, Egypt, and many more, finding inspiration in every country he visited.  His works are typified by a fluid and free, gestural approach to both form and color, and they are immediately recognizable. He is adept at both painting on canvas and watercolor, and is an accomplished lithographer. His subjects are diverse, but are primarily a reflection of the landscape of the Brittany region as he has a profound love for the coast.  Huchet has held exhibitions in New York, London and New Orleans, and several in Egypt, however, Paris is where his largest number of works have been produced. At least 300 editions of lithographs have been printed of his works, all produced by the artist himself in different workshops in Paris and Cannes.
