Wine Label, Ghianda Winery California Wine Sherry, Original, RARE NOS, Vintage 1940's

• Details:  This is a very rare, old label, part of California's early wine industry.   The most interesting thing about it, we think, is the obscurity of this winery, took lots of digging to find information about them.  We also love the simple graphics, great for a country or farmhouse style home.  There is not much color on this label, and the colors it has, are very muted.  It was expensive to use different colors back then, only burgundy, brown, red and black are used, and a little olive green to imitate gilding, which was also expensive, plus wine was not the high-brow business it later became, so labels were not as important.  It reads in part: "Ghianda Winery Brand California Wine Sherry, Withdrawn from Tax Paid Container, Bottled by A. Ghianda Winery Feather Ave. Thermalito California".  This label came from long time dealer Lorie Cairns who recently sold her inventory. Excellent Guaranteed Genuine/Original. Really nice unused condition, suitable for framing, and recommended to maintain this condition. Great for collectors or framed as bar or rec-room, even kitchen decor.  Perfect for crafting & decoupage.

A. Ghianda Winery was started by an Italian immigrant named Giovanni Camerino Dianda, who upon becoming an American citizen, changed his name to Americo Camerino Ghianda.   Americo came to the US all by himself at the age of 14 to work at his uncle's fruit store in Sacramento, CA.  Over time he became an authority in the fruit industry.  He married Delia (you can see her initials on the wine label as well), and had 4 children.  He had a ranch on 100 acres where he grew a variety of fruits and vegetables.  He was well known for his oranges, olives, figs and of course, grapes.  In 1935 he established A. Ghianda Winery located on Feather Ave. in Thermalito, near Oroville, California.  Mr. Ghianda passed away in July 1938 and his son Joseph took over the business.  Unfortunately not much more is known about the winery, however, we did find records from 1974 showing Ghianda Winery was still in operation.  Joseph passed away on 2 Feb 1995  at the age of 89.  Sadly the home went to ruin after Joseph died, it was eventually destroyed.
