  • Pattern:  Vintage Label, Original WIN California Grapes Crate Label, Car Racing Black Checkered Flag Lithograph, Fruit Labels (Discontinued)
  • Made in USA
  • Vintage circa 1940's - early 1950's
  • Details:   This label is all about car racing!  The big yellow letters say "WIN", with trailing "wind" behind each letter showing speed and motion.  To the right is a stadium, a man holding a checked flag with the AAA (Triple A) banner on his sleeve.  This helps us date it to pre-1955.  The label reads: " Produce of U.S. A., WIN Brand, Emperor. Grown & Shipped by W. D. Winton & Son, Ivanhoe, California".  The label clearly shows this to be a Product of the U.S.A, which helps date it to after 1930.  Although only imports were required to show a country of origin, many U.S. companies did so as well.  This is genuine, unused old stock grape crate label, it came from long time dealer Lorie Cairns who recently sold her inventory. Lorie was one of the pioneers in this business. Collecting labels has become a very popular hobby, mainly because of the beautiful and unique images/artwork that can be found.  If this is your hobby, we have lots more labels available, please feel free to browse our selection.
  • Material:  Paper
  • Dimensions:  13 inches Long and 4 inches Tall
  • Condition:  Vintage - NOS.  Very Good Vintage Condition.  This is an original label, new old stock item, never been used.  There is a little stippling on the left side and on the reverse there looks to be a water stain.  If you are a collector, this may be important to you.  The paper is yellowing but this is consistent with its age.  Please review all pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns.  Please remember these are VINTAGE and ANTIQUE items, every effort has been made to show any scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.

AAA was established in Chicago, Illinois on March 4, 1902. By June the same year, AAA also established the Racing Board.  The AAA Contest Board was the motor sports arm of the American Automobile Association. The contest board sanctioned automobile races from 1904 until 1955, establishing of Championship Car racing. Modern-day IndyCar racing traces its roots directly to these AAA events.  All of the races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during that time period were sanctioned by AAA, including the Indianapolis 500. AAA sanctioned the 1905 National Motor Car Championship, the first national championship for major auto racing. It sanctioned the National Championship in 1916, and then from 1920 to 1955. It also sanctioned the Vanderbilt Cup.  As a result of the 1955 Le Mans disaster, the AAA Contest Board dissolved and decided to focus strictly on helping the automobiling public, that is the AAA we know today.
