Georges Briard was born in Russia in 1917 as Jascha Brojdo.  He moved to the US in the 1930's at the age of 20 and studied at the University of Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago, then served in the U.S. Army during WWII.  After the war he worked for Max Wille, who suggested he change his name to Georges Briard. As his popularity grew, he realized it was best to license his name to companies who would produce his designs for many different items like: glassware, barware, trays, coffeepots and dishes.  You are most likely to find his designs sold under the names of: Culver, Pfaltzgraff, M. Wille, and Mdina Glas, among others.  Throughout his career he won many awards for his designs.  Briard died in New York City in 2005, he was 88 years old.
