Designs by Metzke was founded in Tallahassee, Florida in 1963 by Dr. Fred W. Metzke and his wife Mary. Dr. Metzke was an artist and designed all of their products alongside his very creative wife. Together they grew their company to become one of the largest pewter giftware manufacturers in the world. In 1972, their son Stephen joined the company as President. The company featured over 3000 designs in several hundred categories. Their clients included: Disney World, Disney Land, the Smithsonian, Neiman Marcus, Dillard's, major gift catalogs, and thousands of small gift shops and boutiques. Due to heavy competition from imported, less quality, less costly pewter gifts, the company shut down in 1997.
