Unlike other famous cosmetics brands, Germaine Monteil was a real person.  Born in France in 1898, Monteil moved to the United States in the early 1930s.  She started as a dressmaker, in New York-based and became known for her French fashion designs using prints that became very popular in the U.S.  She was also a cosmetician and founded the cosmetics and perfume company bearing her name.  In 1936, Monteil and her husband, Guy Bjorkman, founded the Germaine Monteil Cosmetiques Corp.   This company grew so much she left the fashion design business to concentrate on the cosmetics and skin care and perfumes.   She died in 1987, same year that her company was acquired by Revlon in 1987, from fashion house Yves Saint Laurent.  Later Revlon  sold the Germaine Monteil brand to Wilde Cosmetics GmbH in 2006.
