Pendant, Avon, Pocket Watch Style Perfume Bottle Necklace, Vintage

• Details:  A very unique, pocket-watch style pendant, that's actually a mini perfume bottle to carry your favorite fragrance wherever you go.  One side looks like an antique pocket watch, it has gold Roman numerals on white enamel, and a very pretty scroll design all around. The back has a larger scroll design.  The small lid on top may be opened and refilled with your own fragrance.  A word of warning, this still has a very strong scent from the original Avon perfume that was inside, it will need a good cleaning if you plan to refill it.  It is marked "Avon" on the bottom rim.   Wonderful piece, makes a great gift.

Although Avon started selling perfume as far back as 1886, (as the California Perfume Company), they didn't introduce costume jewelry until 1963, and sales started around 1965.  Most of the early pieces, like this one, was sold packaged with a perfume or other cosmetic product.  By 1975, Avon was the world's biggest costume-jewelry producer.
