Pattern: Glass, Reverse Painted Santa Claus / St Nicholas Ball Ornament

Details: This is a very large and beautiful glass ornament. It is reverse painted with the Old Word Santa Claus, better known as St Nicholas. Wearing the brown coast, a pointy brown hat and carrying toys, this resembles a Victorian era Santa (see below for more). He is walking through a snowy mountainous scene, really beautiful! We were unable to determine the maker or year of manufacture but this looks very contemporary. If anyone has information on the maker of these large ornaments, please contact us, we'd love to learn more. Its classic design adds a nostalgic touch to any Christmas tree and ornament collection!

This Santa with a brown coat, pointy hat, and typically depicted in a forest, goes as far back as the 1800's (illustrated by Robert Seymour in The Book of Christmas (1836)), known as the Victorian-Era Santa, although many Victorian illustrations of Santa show him not only wearing brown, he's drawn in green, red, orange and even blue and purple coats.
