Dinky Toys was the brand name for a range of die-cast zinc alloy scale model vehicles produced by British toy company Meccano Ltd.  Frank Hornby, of Hornby Railways, a British maker of model electric trains, established Meccano Ltd. in 1908 and started producing Dinky Toys in 1938.  These toys are a beloved collectibles, made in England from 1934 to 1979, at a factory in Liverpool.  Dinky Toys were among the most popular die-cast vehicles ever made, pre-dating other popular die-cast brands like Corgi, Matchbox and Mattel's Hot Wheels.  Unfortunately everything started to unravel for Dinky Toys when Mattel entered the market.  In 1987 the Dinky trademark was acquired by Matchbox Toys. To protect the trademark, six models from the Matchbox 1-75 range were soon released by Mattel in Dinky branded bubble packs.
